Right now, I'm still on the campaign road with
the British National Party (BNP) for its "Days of
Action" at London's Becontree in the poor Borough
of Barking & Dagenham that aims to bring about the
unseating of New Labour's Member of Parliament
Margaret Hodge by electing BNP Leader Nick Griffin at
her hopeful demise and loss on May 6th. He is already
a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) is Nick
Griffin. If elected at this 2010 General Election that is
now underway, he would then become the first BNP
candidate to ever be elected to the glittering prize
of a parliamentary seat inside the
British House of Commons.

A glorious day of bright sunshine greeted all the
BNP supporters and canvassers as Nick Griffin
himself arrived looking all fresh and bright with his
nice wife Jackie at his campaign side. They stood to-
gether for group photo ops with party officials and
members (shown below) at Becontree's Parsloes
Park at where today's robust campaign events
all began by-midday.

I also did something for the first time in my life today
by going canvassing door-to-door with BNP ardent
members Richard from Guildford and Chris from
Enfield as we knocked on doors, met the local folkz,
and delivered campaign literature to perhaps 200+
homes at Dagenham's Cornworthy and Lilliechurch
Roads. I was about to gain some new insight into the
English political process that I had not hitherto
experienced before. Richard and Chris were just
superb guyz well worth encountering for the first
time. Richard was a car salesman until made
redundent. While Chris now works at parking
enforcement. They have known each other for 30
years since they were in their teens, so I learned.

Aside from all the political hoopla attendent in all election
campaigns, the real Nitty-gritty is going from door-to-door
to canvass for the votes of the electorate. Such soon brings the
canvasser right down to earth as various reactions come from
those voters ranging from outright rejection and contempt
of the BNP to those who almost jump for sheer joy at the
arrival of BNP canvassers at the own front door.
***
I wanted to canvass so that I could write about the BNP from
the street and neighbourhhood level and away from all the
negative media frenzy that always seems to accompany the
BNP no matter what. Thanks to Richard and Chris, I was able
to experience upfront for the first time what goes into street
canvassing and knocking on cold doors. It wasn’t, of course, all
sunshine and a bed of roses by far, which I soon found out at
getting one door unceremoniously and quickly slammed in
my face and being told more or less to "fuck offffffffffffff."
Such then is also a good hands-on "Reality Check" for any
political party no matter its particular persuasion, colourful
idealogy and/or set stripe. So after no more than nine or
ten doors I had knocked, I soon found angry people
who offered no greeting or welcome at their door.
***
After canvassing at Deganham for a couple of hours with
Richard and Chris, I put together a rough picture of what I
saw and heard from the residents there at Cornworthy
and Lillechurch Road. Here's what I roughly found:

Six or seven said they would definitely vote BNP and of that
four said that had previously voted for the party. Sixteen or
so said they had not made up their minds on who they would
vote for. In other words, they were clearly undecided voters.
Ten or so stated that were "considering" voting for the BNP,
but had not yet firmly committed to do so on voting day.
Twelve or so said they would definately NOT vote for the BNP.
Another ten or so said they were undecided who they would
vote for no matter what party canvassed them. Of all the
doors I knocked – about fifty of them – I found them to be
primarily blue collar or middle class white home owners.
At three doors, I saw black or immigrant tenants who then
seemed to cringe at seeing the BNP right on their doorstep
or instantly shied away completely from even muttering
a word on opening the door or as they looked thru their
windows at me or Richard or Chris.
***
Elderly white women at Barking seemed more favourable to
vote for the BNP from what I saw and heard. And, young
working class white guyz - age twentysomething - seemed
even more favourable than those elderly womenfolk. I was
surprised, however, at the number of English male retirees
who seemed to be rather unsettled or ambivalent toward the
BNP, despite living in the heart of anti-immigration Barking
and Dagenham. Whatever, my picture here is only a very
rough one and is in no way intended to be a formal or acad-
emic poll nor to give a full and true picture that represents
the BNP voter profile. Anybody who says otherwise, is
clearly stupid and dishonest - frankly!
***
All of what I found as I went door-to-door at Barking
& Dagenham was to realise that the centrepiece of the
steady rise of the BNP in the UK stems from the street
I actually canvassed. And the political growth of the BNP
is due to New Labour's continuing treacherous mass
immigration agenda that has now seen the creation
of a multiethnic, multicultural and multiracial pigsty
and rat hole all across our once so pleasant and
deeply historic kingdom of Great Britain.

:: UPDATE ::
Which of these two stories do you most believe?
Both appeared online at The Mail on the same
day and on the same webpage:

I have only given a very brief overview here of what
occurred today while on the campaign road with the
BNP. I shall perhaps at some later date offer more in-
sight of what I saw and heard today, but not until I
have at least hit homebase after my posh dinner
invitation tonight with dear Elizabeth Middleton,
who is visiting London again from South Africa.

Hi Monty:
Official Twitter Conference
We're hosting our first official Twitter developer conference this month. It's called Chirp. The event will take place in San Francisco over two days. The first day is April 14th at the Palace of Fine Arts. On April 15th, we'll be gathering at Fort Mason right along the bay. We're looking forward to meeting in person. For info, tickets, or to watch online, visit the Chirp web site.

Fighting Spam
Our Chief Scientist Abdur recently published a short piece titled, "State of Twitter Spam." In it, he explained how the definition of spam is different when compared to the common email variety. Spam is inevitable on a popular system but we fight it aggressively. Less than 1% of tweets per day are spam and we work diligently to reduce that percentage.

Location, Location, Location
We added a new feature to the Twitter web site that allows you to attach location data to individual tweets. This feature may not appeal to everyone so it requires that you activate it first in your Account Settings. You can choose to share an exact location or a general location such as neighborhood or town. This additional context is potentially very powerful.

Thanks,

MONTY! Just read your piece on the BNP in Barking and Dagenham. I'm a
supporter of FRANK MALONEY. He is running for the same seat as Nick Griffin to "unseat" Margaret Hodge
as the local NuLabour MP. Frank is with the party UKIP. Visit his website: www.maloney4mp.co.uk
A well-known boxing promoter, FRANK MALONEY is good for the good
people of Barking and Dagenham.
If you would like to write a story
about him running for office, please visit his website for details. What you said about canvassing was absolutely true!
You are a good reporter and blogger
MONTY! Are you a friend of Nick and Jackie Griffin? I ask because I've seen a number of friendly photographs of you with them. I prefer UKIP to BNP since its racist character is
not good. The UKIP doesn't carry such downright bad baggage. I look forward to meeting you in person MONTY if and when you write a blog story about FRANK MALONEY for UKIP MP for Barking and Dagenham. Cheers.

FROM THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY.
-------------------
Dear Monty,
The first few days of the campaign have been as fast-paced as I expect the next few weeks to be, so I thought I'd send you a quick update on how I think it's going.

It's been striking that Labour and the Lib Dems have nothing positive to say on the economy. They have shown that they're more interested in personal attacks on the people who create hundreds of thousands of jobs than engaging with the arguments. Alistair Darling has been forced to admit that his plans will lead to what he calls "manageable" job losses, but he refuses to publish the Treasury's analysis of how many people would lose their jobs.

As well as having the right argument on the economy, we've also got the big idea for the future of our country. We believe that Labour's big government has failed, and that it's time to build the Big Society.

A key part of that is going to be our plans for a National Citizen Service that we launched on Tuesday. Watch this video to see Michael Caine talking about the scheme.

It's increasingly clear that there's only one party offering real change in this election and that's the Conservatives. On issue after issue Labour and the Lib Dems are making the same old arguments that got Britain into this mess. Whether it's resisting action to cut waste and stop the jobs tax, or arguing against recognising marriage in the tax system to strengthen our society, Labour and the Lib Dems are the roadblock to change. They are relying on the fear of change and only the Conservatives are offering the hope of a better future. I know which side I'd rather be on.

This enthusiasm has been reflected right at the top of the party too. The Shadow Cabinet have been campaigning all around the country, and David Cameron has rolled up his sleeves and shown tremendous energy in travelling over 3000 miles in the first few days, visiting eight regions of the country in five days. What a contrast to Gordon Brown.

Not only that, but Samantha Cameron has been out and about with her visits to social action projects. Her blogs and videos are already proving to be a hit.

And let's not forget that there will also be local elections on the 6th of May. Our local government team have been working flat out. We have nominated candidates in 98% of contests - a record - and we are contesting more local government seats than any other Party.

That's it from me for now - we've got another big week ahead with the launch of our manifesto on Tuesday, and Britain's first ever party leaders' TV debate on Thursday.

Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer

My name is Olivia Greenwood, and I am an 18 year old girl from east mids. Is there any way you can let me know how to write to bob bailey. I just saw a video of him shouting abuse at some asian youths and continuing to see him repeatedly beating and kicking them. quite frankly- im DISGUSTED. i understand the issues with immigration but what i saw was pathetic, disgraceful and out of order. i never hope to grow up and meet a man like you, bob bailey or nick griffin. men thinking they can look patriotic and masculine by doing that. its laughable, you are never going to get any sort of power in this country, and i cant wait for your breed to die off so this country can be free of people like bob bailey.
if you would like to respond, email at olivia.greenwood@hotmail.com.
